Postdoc Research Associate in Bioinformatics/Computational Biology
The laboratory of Chongzhi Zang at the Center for Public Health Genomics, University of Virginia (UVA) is seeking to fill multiple Postdoctoral Research Associate positions in the broad field of bioinformatics and computational biology. The research program in the lab focuses on developing computational methodologies and designing integrative data science approaches to study chromatin epigenomics... and gene regulation. Current ongoing projects include: multi-omics integration-based algorithm development for transcriptional regulation prediction; model-based algorithm development for single-cell epigenomics and spatial multi-omics data analysis; statistical and computational modeling of phase-separated transcriptional condensation; global epigenetic and transcriptional regulation in T-cell immunity and various human cancer systems, etc. More information on research directions and previous publications can be found at the lab website: zanglab.org. Bioinformatics Analyst
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES We are looking for a motivated and experienced Bioinformatics Analyst to join Dr. Robert Burk’s research group. This role is critical for supporting our ongoing research projects focused in 2 areas- the human microbiome (gut, oral and cervicovaginal), and human papillomavirus related to cervix neoplasia. The ideal candidate will have a background in epidemiology... computer science, bioinformatics, or related disciplines, with practical demonstrated experience in processing next-generation sequencing (NGS) data. The successful candidate will demonstrate a willingness and eagerness to adapt to new approaches, as the field of bioinformatics is dynamic and constantly evolving. Key Responsibilities in order of priority: • NGS Data Handling: Perform demultiplexing and analysis of NGS data using barcoding primers for multiplex NGS runs. • Practical Experience: The candidate is expected to have practical experience with bioinformatics work (handling NGS reads off the machine, etc.) and be willing and eager to adapt to new approaches. This role will be facilitated with a proactive attitude towards learning and applying new bioinformatics methods and technologies. • Data Processing and Analysis: Utilize existing pipelines to process and analyze high-throughput sequencing data reads, including amplicon sequencing, bisulfite sequencing, metagenomics, and viral integration. • Data Management: Manage and organize bioinformatics sequencing data for our research group, including papillomavirus sequences, microbiome data (16S, ITS1 and shotgun metagenomics), and human genomic data. • Large Dataset Management: Download and handle large Fastq, BAM, and/or Fasta files for analyses. • Software Utilization and Script Modification: Use existing software tools and be able to modify R scripts to generate figures and perform epidemiological analyses. • Phylogenetic Analysis: Construct phylogenetic trees to support ongoing research projects. • Collaboration and Reporting: Work closely with and report directly to Robert D. Burk, M.D., Principal Investigator, and collaborate with other lab members generating NGS data. QUALIFICATIONS • Educational Background: Bachelor’s degree with at least one year of experience in epidemiology, computational biology, or bioinformatics. • Technical Skills: Proficiency in R or Python is required. Bioinformatics Analyst
Summary: Under the general supervision... of the Bioinformatics Scientist Department Manager Laboratory Directors and Pathologists and in accordance with established policies and procedures the Bioinformatics Analyst performs independently in the Department of Pathology. The Bioinformatics Analyst will be responsible for analyzing clinical Next Generation Sequencing data contributing to the development of data analysis pipelines and organizing and maintaining databases. Responsibilities: Participates in the daily clinical bioinformatics workflow such as DNA-seq and RNA-seq data analysis. Analyzes the clinical data for the validation of new Next Generation Sequencing tests. Assists with preparation of validation summaries of the new Next Generation Sequencing tests. Comprehensive Cancer Center at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital is seeking a Principal/Lead Bioinformatics Research Scientist. The NBTP is a collaborative, transdisciplinary research program that aims to improve survival and morbidity for children with brain tumors by developing effective, relatively non-toxic therapies through a better understanding of disease pathogenesis. Through application of cutting-edge molecular approaches to unprecedented patient cohorts and innovative model systems, members of this program are efficiently translating laboratory findings into opportunities for new treatments. Genome-wide studies of diverse pediatric brain tumor entities have identified novel mutations, defined molecular subgroups, and opened new avenues of basic, translational, and clinical investigation. The Principal/Lead Bioinformatics Research Scientist functions independently to coordinate large-scale bioinformatics projects, providing project oversight, scientific and technical advice, programming support, and other input as required to achieve established objectives. Coordinates the specialized expertise of bioinformatics colleagues to achieve scientific objectives. Establishes best practice recommendations, creates educational materials, and participates in educational initiatives at the laboratory, departmental, and/or institutional level.
