Position Summary: Whole genome sequencing runs routinely identify millions of genomic variants per sample. Gaining insight into the consequences of each variant is crucial for rare and undiagnosed disease (RUGD) and oncology pipelines... Our team is actively developing an open source variant annotator that is both more accurate than existing tools, but also orders of magnitude faster. We aspire to bridge the gap between variant discovery and provide actionable information for research and clinical use. We are seeking an exceptional individual to join our team in developing variant annotation tools that will be used by researchers and clinicians worldwide. Our tools have been incorporated in Illumina’s expanding rare & undiagnosed disease and oncology portfolios and are run both as standalone utilities and as cloud services. Responsibilities: • Design, prototype, implement, and test computational algorithms that utilize both statistical and machine learning approaches. • Software optimization at the design, algorithm, and source code level. • Identify opportunities to improve the bioinformatics user experience and implement solutions. • Collaborate with internal project teams and with external organizations. • Contribute to the bioinformatics open source community. Sr. Bioinformatics Scientist, Production Data Engineer
As a Sr. Bioinformatics Scientist, your primary responsibility is to enable the data analysis and processing and successful delivery of data within a cloud system to meet project based KPIs for Illumina's partnership with Nashville Biosciences, and future large-scale data generation projects. This role will play a key part of the establishment and scaling of data analysis workflows, primarily... using Illumina cloud software and tools such as DRAGEN, as well as running and monitoring pipelines in production and working on any analysis failures or NGS samples that have not met QC metrics. Our team at The Institute for Genomic Medicine (IGM) at Nationwide Children’s Hospital is driven to create a future where no child with genetic disease goes undiagnosed and every child with cancer receives optimal treatment based upon their personal genome sequence. Recognizing that the root cause of many childhood diseases can be traced directly to the genome, our research program focuses on the development of novel technologies to analyze the billions of data points with a patient’s genome. We’re looking for a Postdoctoral Scientist to join our Computational Genomics Group who shares our passion to advance the understanding of disease through the development of computational tools and the application of big data technologies. This position will have the opportunity to focus their research in understanding the genetics of congenital heart disease and other birth defects. You will have the opportunity to work on a highly collaborative team, developing novel software tools, utilizing the elasticity of the Cloud and innovative Big Data technologies. Our Postdoctoral Scientists are given a unique training opportunity, with co-mentorship from Professor White and clinical scientists who are experts in cardiology, with a focus on helping the candidate to establish their career as an independent investigator. This is an exciting opportunity for a recent PhD graduate or junior postdoc to develop their computational and bioinformatics skills in in a clinical research setting, with opportunities to work on a diverse spectrum of projects which have a direct impact on pediatric patient care. Excellent verbal and written communication skills will be essential as the individual will work collaboratively with bioinformaticians, biologists and clinicians on projects that lead to publications and presentations at professional meetings.
