The Cedars-Sinai Center for Bioinformatics and Functional Genomics (CBFG) is an integrated, interdisciplinary research group with the common goal of developing end-to-end research workflows for genomic and high-throughput functional analysis of patient samples. The primary goals of the CBFG are to... establish a research nexus that integrates leading-edge developments in computational sciences, next-generation genomics and epigenomics, and to use functional biology to improve our understanding of disease etiology applied to personalized health. The Knott laboratory at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center is searching for a Postdoctoral Scientist with a strong background in tumor biology and the immune microenvironment to lead single cell-based omics studies of immunotherapy clinical trials being carried out at the medical center. The scientist will manage a team of laboratory technicians through the processing of clinical trial biopsies for profiling with single cell RNA and ATAC sequencing as well as other emerging technologies. Under general supervision, the incumbent will work as a Bioinformatics Programmer researching the development of a comprehensive understanding of the gene regulatory network and how aberrant gene regulatory circuits contribute to human disease within the Department of Psychiatry. Utilizing single cell transcriptomics and single cell epigenetics to understand dysregulated gene regulatory circuitry in Alzheimer’s disease and substance use disorder. Responsibilities include analyzes and interprets experimental results using bioinformatic methods in a self-directed manner. Produces quality/quantity reproducible scientific data and analyses, generating figures for publication and writing manuscript. The incumbent also will make contributions to scientific literature, conferences or otherwise plays a key role in the advancement of the research project(s) and/or Institute goals. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS • Six (6) years of related experience, education/training, OR a Bachelor’s degree in biological science, computational/programming, or related area plus two (2) years of related experience/training. • Working knowledge of bioinformatics methods and data structures. • Working knowledge of modern biology and applicable field of research. Knowledge as it relates to DNA sequences, sequencing technologies and genomics. • Ability to communicate technical information in a clear and concise manner. Cooperative and service-oriented attitude; must be able to work under pressure and maintain a professional demeanor. • Working knowledge of applications programming and web development. • Working knowledge of databases. • Working knowledge of application and data security concepts. • Possesses highly specific or sophisticated skills and exhibits expert knowledge essential to the work of the laboratory, project or department. • Ability to effectively supervise scientific, research and/or technical staff. • Demonstrated contribution to a project(s) and/or paper(s). • Proven ability to conduct investigations in relevant scientific areas, formulate experimental hypotheses, and analyze and interpret scientific data. • Strong interpersonal skills; ability to effectively interact with all levels of staff and external contacts; ability to work as an effective team member. • Demonstrated experience with data analysis and interpretation of single cell functional genomic datasets. • Knowledge of and experience in working with junior and senior bioinformatics programmers, and in utilizing software to conduct data analysis and interpretation of single cell functional genomic datasets.
